I painted a Dash 8 Q400 for my brother as a little gift, and I'm currently in the process of testing it out and putting it in a private package for him that includes a panel, sounds, and whatever he needs to enjoy it.
I am having a little bit of an issue with taxiing the aircraft, however. For some reason, it appears that the engines are really powerful - so powerful that moving the throttles forward would cause the aircraft to "lunge." It's a pretty raid acceleration, and when I retard the throttles to the idle position, the aircraft quickly slows down and comes to a stop. Taxiing is not smooth at all, and the engines are very sensitive. I can easily find the aircraft going at 30 to 40 knots in the taxi if I move the throttles up just a little bit. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, what corrective actions should be taken? I don't think it's my "method" in taxiing the aircraft - I've flown real aircraft (props - Pipers and Katanas) in the past so I'm pretty sure that it's not anything that I'm doing (I even have rudder pedals that I use and constantly have to "ride the brakes" because if I bring the throttles down to idle, even without brakes the aircraft slows down very quickly). Any help would be appreciated. Below is an image of the aircraft:

i can't give you the ultimate answer, but i can give you a clue whay this is happening,
and that is that the FDE is quite bad, the q400 feels more like flying a F16 insted of a Q400. i did have a FDE to the Q400 that did work(sort of) butt after som bad judgement(beer) i formatet my D:\ drive whit the fde, but i am now working whit a new FDE for the 3 or 4th time. |

Hi, Mahmoud, have you resolved the matter yet? If not, then what might help is to pull your Condition Levers back to "ground idle" (you'll be able to see this occur if you highlight the quadrant in the 2D panel and move them back accordingly). This will make the engines less temperamental and the taxiing much more docile. Since the plane has FADEC (Full-Authority Digital Engine Control), there's nothing that can be done for prop pitch. I love your repaint work, by the way! |
